The Shallow Water Sailors, in their new incarnation as the Chesapeake Shallow Water Sailors (part of the Dinghy Cruising Association’s North America Chapter) held our 47th Annual Spring Cruise at the end of April. This year it was combined with the Calvert Marine Museum’s Solomons Maritime Festival to be part of the Solomons Small Craft Gathering. But not to worry; in spite of all the name changes, new affiliations and new activities it was still a bunch of boat lovers messing about in boats.

Traditionally, the Spring Cruise has been a camp/cruising event and it was again this year. The base was Dennis Point Marina and Campground on Carthagena Creek in Drayden, MD, a favorite site from the past. In spite of rain and blustery winds on the clear days, there was good sailing and gunkholing. For the final evening of sailing, the gang was hosted at David and Marcia’s place on St. Inigoe’s Creek. These lovely people again let everyone use their dock, provided dinner (burgers, drinks and sides) and opened their home for sailors who couldn’t sleep aboard their boats. In the morning they fueled up the voyagers with coffee and kringle and sent them on their way back to the ramp at Dennis Point.
